100 + Ways to Make Extra Money Each Month

100 ways to make extra money each month

Knowing how to make extra money each month is a valuable way of increasing your finances. Whether you want to save up for a holiday, a designer handbag, or something special, having some extra cash coming in every month can really make a difference.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been making extra money here and there to supplement my income and help to pay for my car, masters degree and other things ( a little reminder that you have to declare all your earnings for tax purposes – even if it’s only a small amount).

You could spend a spare hour a week making extra money or you could devote several hours in addition to any job that you hold. The great thing about earning money is that there are plenty of ways to do so.

How To Start A Blog

how to start a blog via bluehost

Today, I will be guiding you on how to start a blog super easily – change your life by setting up a profitable blog that will help you earn a consistent income every month.

Why start a blog?

  • Make money online
  • Make new friends
  • Build your skillset and knowledge
  • Change your life!

By simply doing something you enjoy doing, and from your own personal space, you’ll be able to start earning money online. Get paid for writing about your passions, inspire people and make an income! For just a small price, you too can begin to make money via blogging. I have included a price below that is a Bluehost special for new customers so you can start a blog on the cheap and make a sustainable business earning thousands of dollars per month.

Why Bluehost?

It’s cheap hosting, reliable and I’ve used them with no problems! Using my link, you can get your website up and running for as low as $2.95 per month. You’ll also get a FREE domain if you obtain a 12 months or more plan.

I absolutely love WordPress and would highly recommend the platform over Blogger or Squarespace – WordPress is much better for SEO, design, it’s self-hosted which is the best option for getting sponsored posts and opportunities. Furthermore, you free web support with Bluehost, an easy to use dashboard and once you start making money on your blog, you’ll gain the money back that you invested in web hosting asap!

When starting a WordPress blog on Bluehost, there are a few things you need to consider. Firstly, you need to decide what your domain name should be. This requires a lot of thought and deserves your best answer. It’s the first thing people will see and if it’s catchy, it’ll only help!

It can be tricky to come up with something that can help advertise your niche which also has a ring to it. Obviously, with my blog name, I incorporated my first name into it. With my other blog, Diary of a Freelancer, I just brainstormed a bunch of words onto a page that related to what I wanted to express and hey presto!  You could use your name, nickname or try brainstorming a few ideas to see if anything clicks.

Once you have your blog name, you can then get your domain name through Bluehost directly, which will make the whole process much more straightforward!

Like with most subscriptions, you get more when you invest fully and that is what this is – an investment for yourself. The great thing with Bluehost is that you get a FREE domain for the first year’s subscription, but only if you buy at least 12 months of Bluehost web hosting. You’ll find with Bluehost that you’ll be saving a fair amount of money by buying the 12-month subscription as opposed to a month on month basis.

bluehost packages

The best deal would be to buy the full package and purchase a 36-month plan, as your rate per month is much lower over the same period. If your option is to get the free domain, follow below for the next steps as you’ll be able to buy your hosting page and get the free domain in one step!

Setting up a WordPress blog within Bluehost is very easy, but first, we need to discuss the cost of blogging

To get the cheapest price to start your blog, then choose the basic plan of just $2.75 per month (if you sign up for 36 months) which is a really great price! You do have other options but the price per month will start to rise for the 24-month plan ($3.95 PM) and for the 12 months plan, it works out at $4.95 PM. A few cautionary words though. If you are still not 100% sure about blogging yet then simply opt for the 12-month plan as you still get all the perks the 36-month plan offers, just at a slightly higher price!

The basic plan is all you would really need for now so omit the plus and business plans as they tend to be more expensive (you can always upgrade to a better plan and just pay the difference from the plan you are currently on).

  • Other items you may consider buying are the domain privacy protection – this ensures that all your contact information stays safe and remains private, and this comes in at 0.99 per month.
  • All the other extras you won’t really need on Bluehost so I would just uncheck those options and continue.

Remember, if you do decide to sign up through my link then you will get your domain for free (who doesn’t like free stuff?!) only if you buy a 12, 24 or 36-month blog hosting plan.

I want to make sure you fully understand that if you do buy a minimum of 12 months, it is far more cost-effective. You should approach this decision as if it is a business. You’re here to make money and this may look like you’re spending more, but it will benefit you in the long term and you don’t have to deal with keeping up with what I like to call ‘rent payments’ for this domain address. It’s not ideal if someone is searching for you and they can’t find your site due to a lapse in monthly payments. With the 12 months plus plan, you get your domain free and you don’t have to worry about missing a payment to keep your blogging dreams alive.

The 12-month plan works out at $59 per year but undoubtedly the best plan is the 36 months as the average cost per month is much lower and can only benefit you!

By this point, you are probably ready to create your blog. Follow the below steps to buy hosting for your blog.

1, go to the webpage Bluehost and select the ‘Get started Now’ button

2, select the package/option you’re interested in

3, Enter your domain name you registered with, or if not, select sign up for a new domain.

4, Enter all your payment and personal details

5, You will be asked to enter a password. Please ensure that its totally secure as I’m sure you’ll know, this information is very important.

If you signed up and bought your domain directly through Bluehost then you can skip the next section. however, if you didn’t get your domain via Bluehost, I have an alternative below!

You could buy your domain through Go Daddy, but you will need to connect your domain directly to your hosting account. Go Daddy has all the info needed to get you there and set up in no time. They have a page of support dedicated to this topic.

How do you modify DNS Nameservers when you are using Go Daddy for domain and Bluehost for hosting?

  • Go to Go Account Manager
  • Choose the option Manage Domains
  • Select the domain name you want to modify using the provided checkboxes and then choose click on Set name servers

It will ask for you to enter your updated server details and info into the space provided under the blue name servers heading situated on the right-hand side of the page. Once done, click to save your changes at the bottom and you should see your entries look like this:

ns1.bluehost,com etc.

You will then be required to add the domain you just bought as an add-on to your Bluehost web hosting page. Link the two together by clicking on ‘Domains’ when logged into your Bluehost web account and selecting the option ‘assign’.

If you want to learn how to start a blog on Bluehost then all the information you need is below!

This section makes it very simple to create a WordPress blog and not forgetting its FREE!

  • After your password has been created, Bluehost will then seemingly guide you through all the details in creating your first blog.
  • The first step is to pick a theme. You could just select a random one if you like or you could try and find one that you have an interest in. You can always go back and change this option if you need to so it’s not too important at this stage, which is why it gives you an option to also skip this step.
  • Start building is the next option, which will bring you out to another screen where you can select either business or personal, or if you feel savvy with the options, you could select the ‘I don’t need help’ option.

You have just set up your WordPress Blog!! Good luck in your blogging journey – you can check out my blog posts below for further information on building a profitable blog. If you need any help setting up your blog, feel free to email me!

14 Epic Ideas for Your First Blog Side Hustle

14 epic ideas for your first blog side hustle

One thing I’m aiming to do more of in 2017 is to make more money online. There are plenty of ways to earn extra cash and a side hustle may be just the thing you need if your planning on earning more this year.

Why have a side hustle?

  • Supplement your income
  • Pay off debt
  • Save for a holiday/car/designer item
  • Support studying
  • Pay bills

If you fancy creating a side hustle from your blog or otherwise, I have 14 epic ideas for you.

Become a freelance writer

Maybe I’m biased because I have a site all about freelance writing – see Diary of a Freelancer here, but it’s a great way to make extra money from your blog. My free e-course teaches you all you need to know about using your blog to become a freelance writer. Freelance writing can cover crafting blog posts, long form articles, web copy, writing social media posts and sales copy.

Become a virtual assistant

What is a virtual assistant? A virtual assistant can complete tasks from scheduling social media to administration support. Many businesses, solopreneurs and bloggers require virtual assistants to help them get tasks done quickly and efficiently. Ashlee from Work From Home Happiness has a post on how to become a virtual assistant with no experience.

Be a Pinterest coach

If Pinterest is your jam, why not consider becoming a Pinterest coach? Many businesses still haven’t got to grips with Pinterest, and they still haven’t figured out that Pinterest is one of the best ways to bring traffic to your site and make sales. Gina Horkey from Horkey Handbook has a course all about becoming a Pinterest virtual assistant.

Become a web designer

Many bloggers who have knowledge of web design go on to sell their services as a web designer. Making and selling blog templates can be a great source of income – you can sell these on Etsy and creative market, or set up your own site selling them. If you want to learn web design, check out this resource list here.

Sell jewellery

If you have creative talents, why not make and sell your own jewellery. You can buy jewellery making supplies via Etsy or eBay and you can sell them on these outlets or via your own blog.

Sell prints

If you paint, practice brush lettering, or are a whizz at graphic design, consider selling your own prints. Many people love buying prints for their home and selling them online is becoming more popular. If you want to learn how to paint watercolours, check out the Wonder Forest here. You can also learn the basics of brush lettering here.

Sell an eBook/Course/Workshop

Writing an eBook or course is a popular way to make extra money. If you’re planning on selling one of these, I definitely suggest starting an email list first. You could write an eBook or course on anything related to your blog, whether it’s a recipe book, fitness guide, blogging tips, interiors style guide, fashion styling or a beginner’s guide to beauty products – the list is endless.

Sell photos

If you’ve mastered the art of photography and have the skills needed to capture the perfect photo, consider selling your photos. You could sell stock photos via your blog or you could sell photographs via Shutterstock, iStockPhoto, or similar sites.

Matched betting

Matched betting is a great way to make extra cash. I’ve earned around £500 via matched betting which has helped me to fund a masters degree. Matched betting is a risk-free (and tax-free) way of making money via online betting. I use Profit Accumulator  – this site takes you through the entire process and teaches you how to match bet successfully. You can get a free trial of the site and make up to £45 to see if it’s for you – sign up here.

Complete online surveys

Online surveys are one of my favourite ways to make extra money. If you have a free ten minutes, you can complete a survey and watch the pounds rack up. Sites I love include Mintvine, Prolific Academic and Swagbucks.

Cashback sites

Cashback sites are a gem for getting money back from purchases/subscriptions. Whether you’re buying a new phone contract, purchasing insurance, playing bingo or buying a new outfit, you can get cash back from many stores. My favourite site is TopCashback – simply sign up to the site and visit your online shop through their link. Cashback rates can vary. For instance, you can currently get £8 if you complete an online shop at Waitrose. Once the purchase has been verified, you can withdraw the money from your account and into a bank or claim it as a voucher.

Work for an online company

There are many genuine online companies offering work from home opportunities. Companies currently hiring include Leapforce, Appen online, Casting Words, Arise, Lionbridge, Balance your Books and iSoftStone. Jobs include data entry, bookkeeping, transciption and customer service.

Sell vintage clothing

If you know your fashion labels, try your hand at selling vintage clothing. Vintage pieces can sell well, as long as you know exactly what to buy. You could also try searching charity shops for nice items and selling it for a profit on sites like eBay.

Test websites

Testing websites can pay surprisingly well and you get to earn money from home. UserTesting, Whatusersdo and WebUsability are just three sites that offer work.

How to Make Extra Money Online in 2017

When I first started freelancing, I researched varying ways I could earn money online to supplement my income. There are a range of ways you can make extra money online and I’ve tried varying methods with some working better than others.

I wanted to make extra money online to try and start a savings account, start driving and help pay for a masters degree, all of which I’ve managed to do.

You can make anything between £100/$100 to thousands by setting up some side hustle and I recommend using a few differing methods rather than putting your eggs in one basket.

Whether you’re a student, stay at home mum, or are simply searching for ways to earn extra cash, here is my list of sites that you can legitimately earn extra money online from.

*may include affiliate links

You may have already heard of Swagbucks as its one of the most popular methods of earning extra money online. You can make money via Swagbucks in various ways, like watching videos, completing a daily poll, surveys, playing apps and more. It’s pretty easy to accumulate swag bucks which you can then redeem.

InstaGC is another ‘get paid to’ site that allows you to earn cash via testing apps, watching videos, completing tasks and surveys. Payout starts from just 100 points and its super easy to rack up points just by completing the free offers.

Prolific Academic

Prolific Academic is definitely one of the best survey sites on the web. Unlike other survey sites, Prolific Academic offers surveys and tasks from researchers and startups. Survey payments can range from 50p to £10 or more. The minimum payout is £5 which you can receive via paypal.

Mintvine is a site that allows you to earn cash from surveys, daily polls and other offers. You can cash out at 1000 points which is $10 and you can gain extra points by completing your profile.

Profit Accumulator

Matched betting is a great way to make some extra cash each month. Many people doing matched betting are making in excess of £500 per month. I’ve made a couple of hundred pounds doing matched betting which has helped to pay towards my driving lessons. Matched betting is a risk-free way to make money using free bets. The best site I’ve found to help you seamlessly through the process is Profit Accumulator.

Profit Accumulator helps you understand exactly what matched betting is and takes you through the entire process, and even with a free trial of the site, you can earn up to £45 so it’s worth signing up just for that – think of the makeup you could buy!
