5 Things To Buy in July

How is it July already?!! Especially since its only around 8 weeks until Christmas stock starts to appear in the shops! Crazy! But, for now, let’s enjoy the summer! If you’re on the lookout for some new beauty buys, I’ve got you covered! Here are a few bits and pieces from the world of beauty that I’ll think you’ll enjoy.

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette

Okay, so this is an oldie but goldie! If you’re searching for a good quality matte shadow palette and you love neutrals, buy the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette! This is cooler toned than the original Naked Basics but the shades are highly flattering. There’s only six shades in here, however, the quality of Urban Decay shadows is top notch. This is a lovely palette for creating a subtle daytime smokey eye.

Balm Balm Organic Rose Water

This natural Balm Balm Rose Water is super refreshing and ideal as a toner or if you need a quick pick me up. I love using this after applying a Nip & Fab Glycolic Night Pad – the cooling rose water feels soothing and calming, as well as keeping my skin hydrated. A lovely natural alternative to harsh toners.

NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator

The NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in sunbeam is a good dupe for Benefit’s High Beam, apart from being extra sparkly. This is a beautiful highlighter with lots of shimmer and its the idea shade for pale ladies. You can view it swatched in this post. There arent many liquid highlighters at the lower end of the cosmetics market, especially on the high street, so this one is a nice option to have.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara

The Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara is basically the best mascara ever! I rarely see this mascara given a mention in blog land, but trust me, its incredible. Volumising, lengthening, extra definition, doesn’t look spidery or false, doesn’t smudge, lasts all day, easy to remove…its perfection in a tube!

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder

As we’ve discussed the best mascara in the world, we may as well acknowledge the best bronzer ever! The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder is a light matte bronzer that’s perfect for porcelain skin tones. As it has a matte finish, its the ideal bronzer for oily or combination skin. I love this powder because its extremely buildable, meaning you don’t have to worry about over applying and looking orange. Just a light sweep is enough to add a subtle hint of warmth to your complexion!

NYX Cosmetics | What You Need To Buy and Swatches

NYX have been around for quite a while (Remember their glitter pots?!), but since being introduced to Boots earlier this year, they’ve been going down a storm. I’ve used quite a few NYX products in the past and been lucky enough to work with the brand a few years ago. I’ve purchased a few of their products recently, so this is an accumulation of a few mini hauls.

NYX are really affordable. My boyfriend thought £25 + was expensive for 4 products, but little does he know! I’ve paid £25 for one product before and been disappointed, so finding something you like for a few quid is winning! I’m pretty impressed with all these, though I do need to test out the wear of the lip products. Here’s what I picked up!

NYX Baked Blush

Housed in a cute plastic compact with dainty black bow, the NYX baked blushes are a combination of blushes, illuminators, and bronzers. From baby pink to bronze, theres something in this line up for the majority of skin tones. The shade I have is Spanish Rose, which is a pretty iridescent pink. The formula of this is a little powdery, but these can be used wet or dry and using them with a damp brush definitely gives a more pigmented look. This shade makes a great blush or illuminator on pale skin. I’m not sure if it would show up well on very dark skin tones, so I’d suggest using a darker pink hue like Statement Red.

NYX Concealer

An affordable concealer with shades to suit most skin tones, the NYX Concealer is high coverage, easy to blend and long wearing. I have the shade Porcelain, which is the lightest available. This is a good match for porcelain complexions but it does lean slightly warmer than other light concealers I own.

NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator

A good, affordable dupe for Benefit High Beam, the NYX Born To Glow Illuminator is a liquid highlighter that gives a beautiful, radiant glow. I have the shade Sunbeam, which is an icy pale pink. You can use this highlighter on its own or mix it with your foundation for an extra glowy base. The main difference between the NYX Illuminator and Benefit High Beam is that the NYX version is glittery when blended. If you hate glitter, you’ll want to give this a miss. It’s a very sparkly highlighter that looks stunning on the top of your cheekbones, but it may look too OTT for daytime wear.

NYX Hydra Touch Brightener

A water based crayon to highlight and illuminate, dont be fooled by the name. This isnt a shimmery or opalescent product. The shade Radiance is a pale pink matte that provides subtle highlighting for the eye area or for assisting in contouring of the nose or cheekbones. The Hydra Touch Brightener comes in three shades and isnt a product for dry skin. The pale pink hue works really well at brightening my eye area, and if you suffer from dark circles, I’ll think you’ll find this works well as boosting tired looking eyes. This also works for using under the eye brows to give extra definition. Personally, I’m a big fan – its one of those products that you dont think you need, but actually really does a great job with minimal effect.

NYX Butter Gloss

A welcome alternative to matte lips, NYX Butter Glosses are a hydrating pop of colour for your lips. I have the shade Peach Cobbler – a glossy peachy coral. This gloss is highly pigmented, though you’ll need at least two swipes for even coverage and feels comfortable on the lips. Having not tested the wear, I cant say if its long lasting. However, these type of glosses don’t normally last long on my lips. Peach Cobbler is a really pretty shade that will suit both light and dark skin tones, and the buttery texture feels amazing. I’m sure I’ll be buying a few more of these!

NYX Lip Lingerie

After searching for weeks in every Boots store in Manchester, I finally got my hands on one of these babies. The NYX Lip Lingeries have been hugely popular as matte lips have dominated the beauty world. I managed to grab Ruffle Trim – dusky peach. A liquid matte lipstick, the formula of these is said to be similar to Kylie Jenner’s lipsticks (not sure how true that is!) and they’re much cheaper! The texture feels like a whipped mousse, gliding over the lips with ease. Ruffle Trim dries down pretty quickly – if you have dry lips, you’ll need to really make sure you scrub and moisturise before application as this finish isnt the most flattering on a dehydrated pout. This shade complements pale skin and I can imagine its one of the more popular shades. I really want to try Bedtime Flirt and Push Up next!

3 Concealers for Pale Skin

Having porcelain skin can be a problem when you’re trying to find suitable base products. A lot of makeup tends to run too dark for my skin tone, so I normally stick to certain brands (Bourjois foundations, for example, always look orange on my milk bottle skin). If you’re like me and are looking for concealers that will provide exceptional coverage without that oompa loompa effect, here are three products to consider.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer

The Urban Decay Naked Concealer is the bomb! I use the shade fair-neutral, which I believe is the lightest shade. This gem is everything a concealer should be – creamy, blendable and long wearing. This shade is the perfect match for my skin and it covers redness, blemishes and dark circles with ease.

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer

A great budget option is the Seventeen Stay Time Concealer from Boots. This is the shade fair, which is a cool toned hue. I’ve used several tubes of this concealer and its one I always come back to. I prefer to use this under my eyes as it has a light consistency that covers dark circles and redness, without looking cakey or settling into fine lines. It also works well on other imperfections, such as blemishes and discolouration.

NYX Concealer

NYX have grown in popularity since being introduced into Boots, and rightly so. This NYX HD Concealer is in the shade CW01 Porcelain, which is the lightest in the range. This shade is still a good match for my skin tone, but it leans slightly warmer than the previous two offerings. It’s thicker consistency is great for covering blemishes, its easy to blend and wears well throughout the day. Another good budget option.

The Best of The Beauty Sales Summer 2016

Untitled #1

The summer sales have started! Surprisingly, I’ve found a few beauty bargains which seems to be more than usual. Even MAC are offering 30% some lines, so there’s definitely something for everyone here.
Space NK has several beauty items on sales, including the Jurlique Rose Moisture Cleanser at half price, the Ren Get Your Glow On Gift Set (I couldn’t resist this one – the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask is £32 on its own, so this set for £16 is a huge saving!), and the Laura Mercier Sleek & Chic Eye Colour Palette which is half price.

Over at Feel Unique, their outlet has several savings, including 25% off the Burberry Wet & Dry Silk Eyeshadows, and 20% off the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils and Velvet Gloss Pencils

Beauty Bay is fast becoming one of my favourite online shops and they have a decent summer sale with the Laura Geller Baked Radiance Concealer and Paul & Joe Summer Palettes just two of the items on sale.

Debenhams have a great beauty sale with MAC and YSL Touche Eclat on offer with 30% off.

At Selfridges, you’ll find more MAC on sale, including MAC lipsticks, MAC All The Right Angles Contour Palette, MAC Huggable Lip Colour and MAC Beauty Powder  all with 30% off.

Khloe Kardashians Favourite Budget Highlighter

Whether you’re a fan of the Kardashians or not, there’s no denying that their makeup always looks flawless. Contouring, matte lips, strobing; whichever trend they’re rocking, you’re sure to know about it. I personally love both Kim and Khloe Kardashians luminous looks – highlighter goals!  Recently, Khloe has been spotted using Makeup Revolutions Radiant Lights Powder in Breathe. At just £3, this product is a massive bargain and it’s one you definitely need in your makeup stash.

Khloe Kardashians Budget Highlighter

In fact, the whole range of highlighters is on fire. The Radiant Light powders are a good dupe for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, though I recommend using Makeup Revolutions offering for strictly highlighting purposes, rather than as an overall powder.

Makeup Revolution Radiant Light

Makeup Revolutions Radiant Light Powders are available in three shades; breathe (champagne gold), exude (pale pink/white) and glow (tan/bronze).

Radiant Lights Highlighter

The formulation of these powders is insanely soft and smooth, encased in a black plastic compact with a mirror. All three shades are highly flattering. As I’m pale, I tend to opt for breathe and exude, however, glow looks amazing on tanned skin. The finely milled powder is designed to brighten and illuminate, giving a stunning luminous ‘lit from within look’  If you love subtle highlighters, rather than full on glitter, these will be perfect for you.

Radiant Lights Swatches

These beautiful highlighters are £3 each at Superdrug (£5 on the official Make Revolution site) or you can purchase the trio compact for £8.
